Team Fortress 2 has achieved a new record
Reports indicate that Team Fortress 2 has set a new record for the highest number of simultaneous online players. On June 25, according to SteamDB, the game saw over 151,000 players online at once. This achievement marks a significant milestone for a game that was released on October 10, 2007.
The surge in players is attributed to the Midsummer Mashup, a charity event for the game running from June 26th to 27th. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Stop AAPI Hate, an organization dedicated to combating hate and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Unfortunately, some of the players are bots. Valve and the community have been working to combat them for a long time. The most recent update, released a few days ago, was focused on addressing the bot issue. Players have observed a significant reduction in their numbers due to these efforts, but it seems this is just a battle won, not the end of the war.
